What services does the School Counseling Dept offer?We offer a variety of services that targets and supports the student as a whole. Our three areas of focus are: social emotional learning skills, college/career readiness and academics. We provide individual/group counseling, create student schedules, push into various classrooms to teach lessons, and hold workshops throughout the school year to ensure all of our students' needs are being met.

Who is elgible for counseling?Every student is assigned a school counselor on their first day of school, and every student is elgible for counseling. All students should meet with their school counselor at least once a month with the exception of students with Individualized Education Plans or IEPs. Students with IEPs meet with their school counselor based on their mandates.

What after school programs are offered?Joining an extra-curricualr activity is a great way to build a sense of community with your school, and practice sets of skills that are not always utilized inside a classroom. The following programs are offered at our school: PSAL Sports: Basketball, Baseball, Soccer, Rugby, Wrestling, Fitness, Volleyball and much more. Clubs: Anime, Art, Baking, Drama and much more. See Ms. Hunter for more info! We also have Build-On. If you like to help others in your community, make sure you stop by their office across from the cafeteria. This is a great way to do community service hours as well.

What should I do if I encounter a problem with my schedule?The school counseling department spends a great deal of time to ensure all students are assigned the correct classes, and are placed in the appropriate setting. However, if you feel that there is a mistake, we will be happy to go over your concerns with you and remedy any issues. All you need to do is either email or schedule an appointment with your school counselor.

What are the requirements for graduation?There are different pathways to graduation: Advanced Regents Diploma, Regents Diploma and Local Diploma. All diplomas require students to earn 44 credits in selected subject areas, and pass Regent exams. Please visit the Academics tab of our website for more details.

Who is elgible for a local diploma?Students with an Individualized Education Plan are eligible for a Local Diploma.

When should I start thinking about college?NOW! It is never too early to start thinking about your post-secondary goals. Please visit our College Access tab for more infomration.
